The Town of Apple Valley now has a little bark to their park with the long-anticipated Dog Park at Civic Center Park.
Work on the park was completed in time for the grand opening celebration that was held during the Paws N' Claws Pet Fair on September 8, 2012. Located on the eastern-most edge of Civic Center Park across the sidewalk from the retention basin, the park consists of two separately fenced sections for dogs based on weight class. One area will be dedicated to dogs 25 pounds and under. The other will be for dogs greater than 25 pounds.
Each section has benches, a drinking fountain with a dog fountain, and doggie waste clean-up stations. In total, the dogs will have two acres dedicated for their use.
At a cost of $50,000 to finish the work, the park was funded primarily with Economic Development Initiative grant funds. In addition, Pet Partners, Inc. donated $1,000 for a bench to be dedicated to the memory of Jane Dollar.
