In any emergency, normal deliveries of supplies may be interrupted. Be prepared by having the following items in sufficient quantities to take care of your family's needs for at least 10 days.

Survival

  • Water - 1 gallon/person/day
  • Food - non-perishable
  • Manual can opener
  • Baby food/special diet
  • First aid kit and instructions
  • Blankets or sleeping bags
  • Battery operated radio
  • Flashlights and batteries
  • Medication and glasses
  • Fire extinguisher: type A-B-C
  • Food and water for pets
  • Money (small bills)

Cooking

  • Barbecue, camp stove or chafing dish
  • Fuel for cooking (charcoal, propane, etc.)
  • Plastic eating utensils
  • Paper plates and cups
  • Paper towels
  • Heavy duty aluminum foil

Safety and Comfort

  • Sturdy shoes
  • Heavy gloves (clearing debris)
  • Candles and matches
  • Change of clothing
  • Toys for children
  • Knife or razor blades
  • Garden hose (for siphoning and fire fighting)
  • Tent or tarp

Sanitation

  • Plastic trash bags
  • Large trash cans
  • Soap and liquid detergent
  • Shampoo
  • Toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • Infant supplies
  • Toilet paper
  • Household bleach, unscented
  • Newspaper (for garbage and waste)

Tools and Supplies

  • Axe
  • Shovel
  • Broom
  • Crescent wrench (for gas valve)
  • Screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Hammer
  • Coil of ½" rope
  • Plastic tape and sheeting
