Apple Valley releases interactive map of open businesses

Apple Valley, CA – April 15, 2020: To make it easier for residents to support local businesses, the Town of Apple Valley has released an online interactive map of open, essential, businesses.

“The local business community needs our support now more than ever,” said Mayor Scott Nassif. “In addition to this map, you can also follow our Shop Local Apple Valley Facebook and Instagram pages for more business information and video features.”

To view the Open for Business Map, visit https://av.town/openforbusinessmap. The map is currently in its very early stages and the Town invites local business owners and managers who are operating an essential business to complete an online survey if they are not on the list or if their information is incomplete at https://av.town/survey.

The map, created by the Town's Innovation and Technology Department, also features Town parks and facilities with notes on which amenities are open and closed during this stay at home period. Currently, all open space parks and fields remain open to the public; however, residents are reminded to practice social distancing and wear face masks in all public areas.

A list of businesses deemed essential by the State of California can be found at https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-needs/.

“The IT department has been working diligently to bolster the Town's GIS presence and developed a public facing Open Data portal specifically to share our Community Access web application. We look forward to adding more data and maps in the near future, such as parcels and zoning lookup,” said Brandon Cales, Innovation and Technology Officer. Community Access is available at https://data.applevalley.org

On March 17, the County of San Bernardino issued a clarifying statement to their earlier order concerning social gatherings. The order requires the cancellation of public or private gatherings of people through April 6. Heightened Hygiene Practices

As is typical during any flu season, public health officials recommend individuals take a number of steps to protect both their health and the health of those around them, which include:

  • Wash hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with individuals who are sick.
  • N95 masks are NOT recommended outside of a healthcare setting. Surgical masks can be worn by sick individuals to reduce their likelihood of spreading germs.
  • If someone becomes sick with a respiratory symptoms like fever and cough, they should stay away from work, school and other people to avoid spreading the illness and seek treatment from their healthcare provider.

The Town of Apple Valley will continue to monitor the situation and immediately inform the community if any specific precautions or guidance are provided by either the Department of Public Health or the Office of Emergency Services.
